Hi, my name is Suky and I am the Education Coordinator for Shine. I am a qualified teacher and my teaching background has involved working with learners in schools, colleges and Learning Support teams.
Nationally, children in care continue to underperform in their education. Shine is working on changing this statistic for our children and what is so exciting about my role is that it directly involves making that change by offering 1:1 support which is either based at our office or a venue agreed by the young person. I attend PEP meetings, liaise with teachers and Safe Guarding Officers at schools and colleges. In addition, I coordinate training for staff and our foster carers.
At Shine we know that our involvement in individual support for our foster children does make a difference in their engagement and achievement in education. And of course it’s not all about education because the social aspect is just as valuable and at Shine we have great fun in organising trips and events for our young people- as a team we have a vested interest in our children and we have some wonderful memories of our time with our young people- we want to continue building those memories at Shine!
I am a qualified trainee accounting officer at Shine Fostering and I also work as a private tutor in HOMAC UK LTD where I teach abacus maths to children I have worked in the fostering arena for six years. At Shine I am part of a fantastic and encouraging team.
“I feel that my role at Shine Fostering allows me fulfil my two great loves of working with numbers and children”.
As the Accounting Officer at Shine I enjoy meeting the foster carers and the children and joining in the events with the Shine Family.
